Construction of the Single European Railway Area: Reforms of railway sector in the Czech Republic 2004-2014.
Volf, Jaromír ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
This thesis Construction of the Single European Railway Area: Reforms of railway sector in the Czech Republic 2004-2014 deals with the europeanisation of the Czech railway policies through the lens of four subjects - government, regional governments, Czech railway and private railway companies. The work puts the issue of the European railway reform into the perspective of the concept of network industries liberalisation. The Czech Republic joined the European Union in 2004 and therefore had no chance in influencing its foundation. The thesis attempts to investigate the ways in which the EU affected the Czech railway environment and, simultaneously, if some kind strengthening of actors supporting liberalisation took place. The work concluded that although these actors have been strengthened, the railway market in passenger transport hasn't been created. As the work demonstrates, this was caused mainly by insufficient institutional and adjustment ability of the state that hasn't been able to successfully finish any public tenders. In the regions, the situation is similar - in 2009, a ten- year memorandum on operating of regional transport by Czech railways has been passed. Besides, each region has a different transport policy and the government will probably try to handle.

Common Transport Policy: the Reforms of European Railways
Volf, Jaromír ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Rederer, Václav (referee)
Bachelor thesis Common transport policy: the Reforms of European Railways focuses on reforms of the railways that European Community has introduced since its foundation. The thesis is devoted particularly to the development during last two decades. The text analyses the causes of decline in volume of the railway transport and its structural difficulties. The European Community did not cover the Common transport policy effectively at that time, thus member states had to solve the problems their own way. Therefore, firstly national models of the reforms are introduced. These models were the pattern for the new coming European reforms. The crucial moments, which had formed the Common Transport Policy, are emphasized. The European legislative is analyzed in the thesis. The primary aims of Common Transport Policy have been: formation of the internal market, revitalizing and liberalization of railways and harmonization of technical standards. The thesis analyses the effectiveness of the Common Transport Policy. The conclusion of the text is that the policy is not in place globally; however some member states demonstrated slight improvements. The different approaches among EU members cause the decrease of the policy's efficiency.

Hinčica, Vít ; Sato, Alexej (advisor) ; Mervart, Michal (referee) ; Malý, Josef (referee)
The dissertation has focused its attention on rail freight transport in the EU where it tried to identify trends that have accompanied that transport in the last decades. The identified trends are: intermodality, interoperability, creation of railway corridors and harmonization of legal norms for transport of goods. Each trend has been judged from the perspective of the so-called "common transport policy". The complexity of the analyzed environment as well as the interest in the depiction of the situation in the Czech Republic have led to the setting of three goals and three scientific questions. The result of the author's scientific investigation is a completely original work that should contribute to better understanding of changes of structural-systemic nature that happen in the rail cargo transport in the territory of the EU. Such a work is also an evaluating mirror for the reform of the railway sector undertaken by the same institution.
